Why choose self-priming centrifugal pumps?

Self-priming centrifugal pumps, what are they?

Used within an array of industrial and manufacturing processes, self-priming centrifugal pumps are highly-recommended surface mounted pumps that can perform against a negative suction lift.

Who uses them?

They are used in various industrial processes such as manufacturing, wastewater, environmental, civil engineering, construction and agriculture.

They can handle pretty much any fluid including diesels, light oils and contaminated fluids as well as corrosive/ abrasive fluids.

Why choose them?

  • They’re self-priming and can handle negative suction head lift up to 7.5m.
  • They are surface mounted and therefore easy to access and maintain. This gives them a clear advantage over submersed pumps. Inspection covers are mounted on the pump body, making it easy to access the impeller and remove any blockages.
  • Blockages are however rare because these highly robust pumps can handle large diameter solids up to 30mm diameter. If you are for example, pumping river water or liquids within a production process, contamination from small stones, gravel, sand and other smaller items will not cause a problem.
  • Because these are self-priming pumps, they can dry run and there’s also an option to add an auto-seal lubricator to ensure there’s no burnout during priming.
  • Available in cast iron and stainless steel they are robust and hard wearing, giving them a long operational life.
  • They are available in a range of sizes.
  • Parts such as mechanical seals and gaskets are readily available (we keep a good stock). However, because these pumps have minimal moving parts, they are easy to maintain.
  • If you are working with flammable liquids, they are ATEX Certified.
  • Cost-wise they’re highly affordable too (do give us a call to ask for prices).
